Executive Summary

This report serves as an accumulation of the research, analysis, and design over a two- semester long study on The Medical College and its building systems. It focuses on the redesign of the existing mechanical systems that serve the East Wing of the building. The redesign alternatives were analyzed and compared to the existing mechanical systems. The analysis consisted of comparing the ventilation rates, energy use, operational costs, payback periods, and return on investments. The initial investment for the redesign was deemed a feasible strategy to obtain long term savings and it was recommended to implement the redesign alternatives.

Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Richard Guditus. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
